We typically employ technical specialists who have had extensive patent exposure as patent examiners, patent law students, or years of experience. While we are physically located near to the U.S. Patent Office in Alexandria, Virginia we see no particular advantage to that proximity. The issue is one of search competence, organizational facility, uniformity of style, clarity of guidelines, and agility to employ the appropriate talent for a particular technology. We have no restrictions as to geographical location of our searchers: Our searchers can be located anywhere there is an Internet connection. The primary issue is not where the searcher resides but the structural organization and support system that allows the search to be laid out properly with guidelines, checklists, templates, model letters, sample letters and a framework that gets the searcher focused and keeps the searcher focused. Searching is an art form in that the creative mind of the searcher has to be supported so as to allow that talent to investigate questions freely and fully. We typically use standard publicly available databases: uspto.gov; google; espacenet; scrius, journalseek.net; ip.com. Our searchers find documents that are in English or which have English language abstracts regardless of their language or origin.
